Crafted to redefine micro-machining, the IGUANA Series from ZECHA stands as a world-first in diamond-coated tool technology. Featuring laser-sharpened cutting edges below 1 μm and a perfectly smooth diamond surface, these micro tools deliver exceptional edge retention, minimized cutting forces, and an unmatched surface finish. Whether you're machining non-ferrous metals, copper, or abrasive plastics, IGUANA tools extend tool life dramatically—proven in ZECHA's 30-day non-stop milling challenge. This is not just innovation—it's precision perfected.

WORLD FIRST LASER-SHARPENED DIAMOND COATING

The IGUANA series from ZECHA introduces a world-first innovation: laser-sharpened diamond coating. Unlike conventional diamond-coated tools, where edges are dulled by the coating thickness, IGUANA uses precision laser processing to create flawlessly sharp cutting edges with a radius as fine as 1 µm. This breakthrough drastically lowers cutting forces and heat generation, resulting in longer tool life, smoother surface finishes, and fewer secondary operations. The result is a tool that maintains its sharpness and consistency over extended use.

BETTER SURFACE FINISHES

The IGUANA's laser-sharpened diamond coating delivers a new standard in surface quality. By eliminating the rounded cutting edges typical of conventional coatings, it achieves flawless sharpness which results in exceptionally smooth surface finishes straight from the milling process, minimizing the need for secondary polishing and saving valuable time. For precision applications such as copper electrode production (as in the video shown below), this translates into consistently high-quality results and superior efficiency.

EXTREME LIFETIMES

The IGUANA's laser-sharpened diamond coating extends tool lifetimes to several thousand hours—pushing far beyond the limits of conventional diamond-coated tools. To prove this ourselves, we launched the Iguana Milling Challenge, a world-first live test where a single 1 mm ball nose end mill ran non-stop for over 30 days, 641+ hours, and 27 km of milling in copper without losing its edge. This extraordinary performance showcases the unmatched durability and reliability of IGUANA technology, ensuring fewer tool changes, reduced downtime, and consistently precise results.

AWARD-WINNING INNOVATION

The groundbreaking IGUANA technology has not only redefined performance in precision milling but has also been recognized with multiple awards for its innovation. Most notably, ZECHA received the prestigious Baden-Württemberg Innovation Prize (Dr. Rudolf Eberle Prize) in 2021, honoring the world-first achievement of laser-sharpened diamond coatings. These accolades highlight the global significance of IGUANA's ability to deliver extreme lifetimes, flawless sharpness, and superior results in the most demanding machining applications.

ProtocolHeader

Our measurement protocol is a premium quality assurance service available for select high-end tools. After machining, each tool is individually measured and documented for its exact dimensions. This data is printed on a dedicated label affixed to the tool's packaging, so you have precise specs in-hand—literally. No guesswork, just exact numbers you can rely on when precision is critical.

DIAMETER AND RUNOUT MEASURED TO ONE MICRON

Both diameter and concentricity (runout) are measured with a precision of 1 micron—that's 0.001 mm. For comparison, the average human hair is about 70 microns thick, so we're dealing with measurements at the edge of visibility. These two values—diameter and concentricity—are then combined to determine the tool's effective diameter.

Why is this crucial? Because it's the effective diameter that defines the actual cut the tool will make in your material. Without this data, your CAM software is only guessing. With it, you get exact compensation, tighter tolerances, and more reliable, high-precision results.

ULTIMATE PRECISION FOR THE JOBS THAT REQUIRE IT

When every micron matters, this protocol gives you the edge. By combining real tool data with your digital workflow, you gain total control over toolpath accuracy—ideal for dental implant components, aerospace-grade parts, or any application where absolute precision is a must. It's not just a tool—it's calibrated confidence.
